The remains were found in a heavily vegetated area near Ridgeway and Ridge Meadows avenues.

Authorities said there is “no indication of any active threat to our public” as the investigation continues.

How the search unfolds

The investigation began March 8 after an anonymous caller reported a “possibly human skull” was found in a wooded area along Ridge Meadow Parkway. Responding officers found what appeared to be skull But a detailed search was postponed due to limited visibility.

Over the next few days, investigators returned with support teams and expanded the search area. The operation ultimately involved nearly 170 personnel led by the Memphis Police Department’s Homicide Unit, working with agencies including the FBI and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The cadaver dogs then alerted police to a nearby drainage pipe, prompting further inspections.

Believed to be the remains of three children

Investigators believe the remains belong to three people between the ages of 3 and 7, according to preliminary findings from the medical examiner’s office.

Officials noted that identification efforts are still ongoing.

Police appeal for information

“This is heartbreaking and disturbing,” Davis said, urging the public to come forward with any information that could help identify the children.

“Someone knows where these children are coming from. Someone knows the missing children in this area,” she said, appealing for tips as investigators continue their work.

Authorities said there is no immediate danger to the community, but the investigation is ongoing and officials are working to identify the victim and determine the cause of his death.
