Rangasamy meets LG, claims to form government in Puducherry

New Delhi: Founder, All India NR Congress (AINRC) N Rangasamy He met Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kuniyil Kailashnathan on Friday evening and floated the idea of ​​forming the government in the Union Territory, days after winning the recently held assembly elections.Rangasamy, Puducherry’s longest-serving chief minister, submitted letters of support from members of the Legislative Assembly seeking the right to form the government. The letter was sent to the President for approval.Earlier in the day, Rangasamy was re-elected as leader of the Nationalist Democratic Alliance (NDA) Legislature in Puducherry earlier in the day.In the same meeting, Puducherry Home Minister A Namassivayam was elected as deputy leader of the NDA Legislature Party.The NDA succeeded in retaining power in Puducherry, with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh winning 12 seats and the BJP four in the 30-member Puducherry Assembly. AIADMK won one seat.DMK won five seats and Congress one seat. TVK, which made its debut in Tamil Nadu, also opened an account and won two seats.Rangasamy won the Thattanchavady assembly constituency on Monday by polling a total of 10,024 votes, winning by a margin of 4,441 votes after counting of Union Territory (UT) votes.He resigned as Puducherry chief minister to Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan at Lok Bhavan on Thursday.N Rangasamy is a veteran political leader from Puducherry and has been serving as the Chief Minister of the Union Territory since May 2021. He has served as chief minister several times before, first from 2001 to 2008 and second from 2011 to 2016. In 2011, he founded AINRC after breaking away from the Indian National Congress (INC).His political journey spanned decades of changing electoral trends in Puducherry.In the 1970s, leaders such as V Pethaperumal of the Indian National Congress were influential, and the 1977 elections saw the rise of the BJP. In the 1980s and 1990s, political parties such as the Janata Dal came into play, and Rangasamy himself became an INC representative in 1991.The political situation continued to evolve during the 1996, 2001 and 2006 elections. In 2011, AINRC’s influence was strengthened under the leadership of leaders such as Ashok Anand. Later, DMK’s K Venkatesan won the 2019 by-election, followed by Rangasamy returning to power in 2021 under the AINRC banner, marking yet another shift in Puducherry’s political landscape.
