New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh He visited Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) submarine construction facility in Kiel, where he received a presentation on advanced naval technologies and capabilities. He visited the shipbuilding facility accompanied by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. The visit comes as India is nearing completion of its nearly Rs 100-crore Project India-75 (P-75I) program, which will see the construction of six advanced submarines at Mazagon Dockyard Shipbuilding Limited (MDL) with major technology transfer.TKMS is a leading contender in the program, offering submarines equipped with advanced air-independent propulsion (AIP) systems that allow for longer underwater endurance and increased stealth. On Day X, Rajnath described the visit as “insightful”, highlighting the technological advancements and operational capabilities demonstrated at the facility. He boarded a Type 212 submarine and demonstrated its capabilities.Singh said the engagement was “mutually beneficial” against the backdrop of changing geopolitical trends in the Indo-Pacific region. The visit also reflects New Delhi’s growing emphasis on partnerships with European countries in key defense areas such as naval systems and shipbuilding.
