NEW DELHI: In a bid to strengthen civil-military cooperation, Railways and Army have formalized a framework for collaboration to expand post-retirement employment opportunities for Agnivir and Army personnel. The railway company said it will recruit more than 5,000 retired military personnel as contract workers to quickly fill vacancies.The initiative aims to ensure a smooth transition from military to civilian careers and to raise awareness about employment prospects within the railways. The railway company said it would also create a dedicated support system to help retirees.This collaborative framework underscores a shared commitment to providing veterans with meaningful second career paths while supporting broader national development goals.The railway company said in an official press release that it provides employment channels for retired soldiers and retired military personnel, and provides veterans with a guarantee of 10% horizontal reservation for second-level and above positions and 20% horizontal reservation for first-level positions. Additionally, 5% of Grade II and above posts and 10% of Grade I posts are reserved for former Agniveers. In 2024 and 2025, the railway vacancy notice has reserved 14,788 positions for retired military personnel.
