A murder investigation has been launched after a man died after being attacked by robbers at a block of flats in east Belfast. Nicholas, also known as Nikki Gordon, died after being seriously injured when he was attacked by an intruder at his apartment building in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Gordon was taken to hospital where he later died. According to the BBC, police were informed of the incident at 08:25 BST on Tuesday, although it actually took place around 04:45am. Detective Chief Inspector Duffy told the media that “a number of intruders” entered the block of flats and “attacked another man before running away”. Paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after.Two suspects have been charged with aggravated burglary with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The two suspects include a 24-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman. They were granted bail by the police following an investigation into the matter. The PSNI said officers would “continue to rapidly search for anyone else who may be involved”.Some local political officials said the local community was shocked by news of the violent crime. One of those officials, DUP MLA David Brooks, said such cases left many residents in the local community frightened and worried. He added: “This is not something you would expect to happen in a local community but the nature of this type of break-in is that people also fear for their homes and their safety.Another Coalition MLA, Peter McReynolds, said the local community was shocked and distressed by the case as this type of crime was rare in the community.
