What went wrong?

USTravelDocs.com, one of the three main visa placement websites used by the U.S. State Department, has been experiencing ongoing technical issues that have worsened in recent weeks.

“As one of the three primary visa placement websites used by the U.S. Department of State, USTravelDocs.com has been experiencing ongoing technical issues that have increased significantly over the past few weeks, preventing visa applicants worldwide from applying for visas, paying processing fees, and scheduling visa interviews at U.S. embassies and consulates abroad,” said. Why this is a problem for Indian applicants

This disruption is reportedly particularly severe for people in India as USTravelDocs.com is the primary platform used by US consulates and embassies in India business standards.

These issues affect applicants in all major visa categories, including tourist visas (B1/B2), student visas (F-1), work visas such as H-1B, exchange visitor visas, and family-based immigrant visas.

Many U.S. embassies and consulates use USTravelDocs.com to collect visa fees and schedule interviews, including those in India, Australia, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, and several other countries.

Green card applicants face more obstacles

The U.S. Department of State’s Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC), which is used to submit DS-260 forms for immigrant visa processing, also experienced system issues.

While most applicants can now access the website, those who are still experiencing difficulties should wait at least 24 hours before trying again and visit http://nvc.state.gov/ for instructions.”

These disruptions come at a particularly difficult time. Demand for U.S. visas is rising ahead of the summer travel season and the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The U.S. State Department has acknowledged the technical issues and said it is working to resolve them.
