Peterson Space Force Base: Shooting threat triggers Colorado Springs shelter order

On Thursday, Peterson Space Force Base issued a shelter-in-place order amid reports of threats of a shooting there. News from the base colorado springs shared with Facebook.

“Due to potential threats to the facility, Peterson SFB has been directed to shelter in place and all doors are closed. All personnel are to report to designated basement or ground floor shelter in place locations,” the message read.

SFB is home to Delta 1 Space Base, NORAD, U.S. Northern Command and U.S. Space Command. It is critical for space operations and missile warning. The threat to the base comes from the Iran war, in which the United States and Israel joined forces to eliminate Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Since then, local law enforcement has been looking for possible attacks that occurred domestically. Reports of incidents at various bases have also increased. However, there is currently no indication that the Peterson incident is in any way connected to broader geopolitical tensions.

Possible reasons for today’s shelter-in-place order were shared on the Air Force amn/nco/snco Facebook page. “Someone decided to make a death threat against Peterson SFB Dorm Discord,” the post read. It shared an excerpt of a person’s text saying “I’m going to shoot the base.”

The SFB has not yet commented on the matter. KKTV reports that the Colorado Springs Police Department has confirmed news of the lockdown to them, but has yet to make an official statement on the matter.

Peterson Space Force Base Lockdown Response

Some people are reacting to news of the shelter-in-place order being issued at Peterson Space Force Base.

Many people are wondering about the possible reasons for the lockdown. “Guess tornado?” one person said. Another added, “There is a wildfire near FT Carson but it is being contained.” In response, someone clarified that there were no storms in the area at the time. Another explained that “someone is discord threatening the base.”

People also expressed their opinions in the group where the threat message was posted regarding the alleged shooting of the SFB dormitory. “A man of high caliber…” said one sarcastically, while another added “A man who talks like this cannot shoot…”. Another quipped “It’s going well.”
