U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegers sparks controversy after comments on Thursday Christianity Pray for the rescue of the American pilot who recently misquoted the Bible verse Ezekiel 25:17.
Heggs said the verse was recovered by the Sandy 1 Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) mission, which rescued the pilot, and named it CSAR 25:17 — a reference to two combinations: Ezekiel 27-17 and the unit’s abbreviation.
However, this prayer is not original: it is loosely based on a modified version of Ezekiel 25:17 spoken by Samuel L. Jackson in the opening scene of Ezekiel. pulp Fiction (1994) – Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar-winning film.

These three prayers—CSAR 25:17, Pulp Fiction, and Ezekiel—are very different from each other. While they both retain the language and structure of the original Ezekiel 25:17, the references are quite different. Hegseth’s CSAR prayer referenced the unit’s rescue of a F-15 pilot The plane was shot down and landed on Iranian soil.

Ezekiel 25:17 reads: “I will rebuke them severely and take vengeance on them; and they will know that I am the LORD when I take vengeance on them.”
The dialogue in Pulp Fiction (1994) is as follows: “The path of the righteous is beset on all sides by the inequality of the selfish and the tyranny of the wicked. Blessed is he who guides the weak through the valley of darkness in the name of charity and good will. For he is indeed his brother’s keeper and the finder of the missing child. I will strike with great vengeance and wrath against those who seek to poison and destroy my brothers. You will know that I am the Lord when I take vengeance upon you.”
CSAR 25:17 reads as follows: “The path of the downed airman is besieged on all sides by selfish sin and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is the man who leads the lost through the valley of darkness in the name of friendship and duty, for he is indeed his brother’s keeper and the finder of the lost children. I will strike with great vengeance and fury those who seek to capture and destroy my brother. You will know me.” When I seek vengeance against you, the call sign is Sandy 1, Amen. “
