Residents near the base reported hearing loudspeakers announcing the lockdown, according to posts circulating on social media.
Some users also suggested that the blockade may be related to unauthorized ship calls, but this has not been confirmed.
“Naval Air Station Pensacola is on lockdown. Naval Air Station Pensacola is on lockdown until further notice. By order of the commander, all personnel on the main base are required to follow lockdown procedures,” a person reported on X.
Another wrote: “There is currently an active shooter at Naval Air Station Pensacola. They are on lockdown and will not be providing any updates to the family.”
