Social media posts from official Democratic accounts on X sparked heated online exchanges this week. The account posted “Fire on. Ready to go. It’s time to take back Texas.” President Donald Trump’s deputy chief of staff, Stephen MillerIn response, Democrats have nominated Texas’ first transgender Senate candidate.
Democratic accounts fired back: “Shut up, you ugly bastard.”
That’s when Stephen Miller’s wife, Katie Miller, decided to name the people behind the account as Paulina Mangubat and postal: “She’s 30, single, no kids. Put your name on it next time. This is what a sad, unhappy female Liberal looks like. That’s why Pew reports that 50 percent have been diagnosed with a mental illness.”
Katie’s post sparked an immediate backlash, with users coming to Mangubat’s defense. “Paulina sounds like a great person! On the other hand, you and your husband are evil bastards who were shoved in a locker in high school so now you take your sorrow out on others,” one user wrote.
Another said: “You’re tweeting about a social media staffer at the Democratic National Committee…and you’re saying she’s upset? You look pained, but it shows that your entire brand is based on defending cruelty.”

- Mangubate is the daughter of Filipino immigrants. She graduated from Barnard College in 2017 with degrees in political science and East Asian studies. Growing up in a majority-white school where she rarely saw people like her in leadership positions pushed her toward inclusive politics, according to Barnard College.
- According to LinkedIn, Mangubat currently serves as deputy chief mobilization officer for the Democratic National Committee, and before that she served as digital content and creative director.
- Mangubat served as digital and creative director for Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, the first Asian American woman to lead the city. She ran Wu’s social media, produced campaign videos and graphics, and designed materials such as flyers and lawn signs.
- Prior to working with Mayor Wu, Mangubat joined AL Media, a Washington, D.C.-based political advertising firm, where she produced television and digital content for clients including Senator Raphael Warnock.
- Apart from politics, Mangubat is a photographer, videographer and designer. According to Barnard, she coined the term “content amnesia” to describe the speed at which creators forget their work in the rapidly changing world of digital media.
