Paramakudy (SC) is a reserved constituency in Ramanathapuram district and the contest between DMK and AIADMK is fierce. In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s S. Murugesan won by 84,864 votes, defeating AIADMK’s N. Sadhan Prabhakar was elected with a margin of 13,285 votes. In the 2016 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s Dr S. Muthiah won by 79,254 votes, defeating DMK’s U. Thisaiveran by 13,389 votes. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Dr. S. Sundararaj of AIADMK won by 86,150 votes, defeating R. Ramprabu of INC by a margin of 34,606 votes. Historically, the AIADMK has dominated the constituency with six victories since the 1977 elections, while the DMK has won twice.
