New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to the family members of the adult victims of the Palam fire incident and Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the minors who died in the Palam fire incident. Posting on X, Gupta said: “The Delhi government stands firmly with the affected families and will ensure all possible support. Financial assistance is being provided.” She announced “Rs 10 lakh each to the family members of the deceased adults, Rs 5 lakh each to the family members of the deceased minors and Rs 2 lakh each to the seriously injured”. “We are committed to ensuring relief, support and all necessary assistance during this difficult time,” she added. A fire broke out in a multi-storey residential building in southwestern Delhi’s Palam area on Wednesday morning, killing nine members of a family, including a 70-year-old woman and her three granddaughters, officials said. Three other people were injured, including two who jumped from a building at Ram Chowk market near Palam metro station in a desperate attempt to escape the flames, they said.
