Scotland beat Italy in T20 World Cup party with emphatic victory

All-rounder Michael Leask delivered a match-winning match with a stunning late cameo and a four-wicket haul off opener George Munsey’s attacking half-century as Scotland thrashed T20 World Cup debutants Italy by 73 runs in Monday’s Group C match.Muncy, after a 41-ball reprieve, laid the platform with a fluent 84 off 54 balls with 14 fours and two sixes. The left-hand bowler dominated the Italian attack before Lisk completed the late attack with an unbeaten 22 off the last five balls, including two sixes and two fours from Thomas Draka, as Scotland surged at Eden Gardens.

Leske then made an immediate impact with the ball, knocking down Italy’s first delivery and returning with brilliant figures of 4/17. Italy were restricted to 134 for 9 in 16.4 overs, with skipper Wayne Madsen unable to bat after dislocating his shoulder earlier in the match. As a result, West Indies, Scotland and England occupy the top three spots in Group C, separated only by net run rate. Scotland played two games, while England and West Indies played one each.Italy’s chase never recovered from an early blow, with Justin Mosca passing the first ball past Lisk. The player outside the spin remains at the center of the game, breaking up partnerships and applying pressure through the middle overs.JJ Smuts briefly injected momentum into the innings, blasting 23 runs in the third over of Brad Wheal’s 6, 4, 6, while Anthony Mosca also hit a thumping hit. Despite losing three wickets in the first 28 balls, Italy showed resilience through Ben Manenti, who scored 52 off 31 balls to reach the 50-match T20 World Cup for the first time. He reached the milestone in 29 deliveries, sending Oliver Davidson to Midwicket for six.Ben and his brother Harry Manetti (37) added 73 runs from 46 balls to revive Italy’s hopes, but Lisk broke the partnership by dismissing Harry. Ben followed and Lisk ended his spell by removing Grant Stewart and Gian Piero Meade in quick succession.Scotland, meanwhile, had a point to prove after losing to Italy in last July’s European qualifiers – their only defeat in four games – which cost them direct qualification for the World Cup. A late arrival as Bangladesh refused to play India on safety grounds gave Scotland some breathing space after a stellar performance against their European rivals. The Italian team made little progress other than winning the game. Their woes deepened when captain Madsen injured his left shoulder during an awkward dive in the fourth over and was subsequently ruled out of the game.Munshi set the tone early, pulling Ali Hassan for consecutive boundaries in the opening over. Italy insisted on playing short and wide, and their aggressive start cost them. Munsey was reduced to 41 when Anthony Mosca bowled a skier at cover, but he stormed to his 14th T20 fifty off just 30 balls, hitting a six off Ben Manenti.Michael Jones was wary at first but soon joined the attack as Scotland went unbeaten at half-time and climbed all the way to 91. Muncy was increasingly damaging until Italy finally took their first World Cup wicket in the 14th over when Grant Stewart dismissed the opener and was caught by Harry Manenti. Jones departed soon after, but Brendan McMullen and Leeske combined to ensure Scotland finished brilliantly.

'He's lost a bit of power': Ponting, Shastri on why Babar Azam stands at crossroads for T20 World Cup

New Delhi: Babar AzamA rocky start to the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has sparked a rare, in-depth debate featuring two of its most respected voices – Ricky Ponting and Ravi Shastri – Openly questioned Pakistan’s use of their leading batsman and the pressure around him.Push boundaries with our YouTube channel.Subscribe now! Pakistan started their season with a wicket win over the Netherlands, but Babar was successful in other areas as he scored 15 off 18 balls at fourth. While the former captain produced an unbeaten half-century against Australia in the T20I final ahead of the World Cup, Ponting feels something fundamental has fallen off.

“If you take 15 off 18 balls, you not only put pressure on yourself but also on the guy at the other end,” Ponting told ICC Review. “Babar needs to break the line early. He needs to get off the ball and keep going…otherwise every time he comes on, the whole momentum of the game changes.”Ponting further suggested that Babar might have lost some of his signature power in the middle of the order. “It seemed to me that he had lost some power, lost his ability to hit the ball,” he said, noting that the failure to attempt spin was a worrying sign. While defending Babar’s value as a big-match player, Ponting made it clear: “Pakistan need the best in Babar Azam if they want to go far in this tournament.”

Do you think pressure is affecting Babar Azam’s performance?

Shastri echoed these concerns but framed them around expectations and reputation. “When you are at that stage of your career, there is baggage,” Shastri said. “Expectations are high. People expect you to go out and deliver results.” He urges a more fearless approach, even at the cost of early dismissal. “In your first five balls… try to push some boundaries. You’ll feel better and things may change. Both experts also raised questions about Babar’s current role. Ponting floated the idea of pushing him back to third. “The sooner he gets in… having only two fielders out will help him,” he said, adding that Pakistan’s power batsmen can dominate later on.However, the most dramatic note came when the choice itself was presented. “They have a big decision to make whether he stays or leaves him out,” Ponting said, while Shastri warned that “questions will be asked.”With Pakistan set to take on the United States in Colombo on February 10, Babar finds himself in a defining moment.

New Delhi: Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Monday dismissed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa SarmaAlleging that he had links to Pakistan, he said the SIT report was shelved by the chief minister for six months as there was no evidence. Gogoi told a news conference in Guwahati that his wife, Elizabeth Colburn, had visited Pakistan for work in 2013 and accompanied him on the 10-day trip and that he had never been questioned about it.“He was so low down that he disclosed information about my child. We also know about his child; everyone knows it but we don’t want to disclose it. He has proven that he is not the right person to be chief minister.” Their remarks bring shame to Assam. Why are they spreading false information? This should be taken up by the Supreme Court,” the Congress leader said, adding that he would seek legal action against Sarma for his remarks against his children.Gogoi demanded the release of the SIT report to prove his innocence. “Right from the beginning, I have always said that I will not oppose the SIT probe. I want the SIT report to be released. The CM is not Chanakya.”Talking about the timing of Sarma’s press conference, Gogoi said, “The main fact behind yesterday’s lengthy press conference is the rising support of the Congress party… If this is a matter of national security, why has he been doing nothing for the past six months?… The Congress was forced to hold a press conference after the Congress revealed that 12,000 Bihas land was held by his family.”Gogoi further accused Sarma of “inciting genocide against Muslims” through his social media videos.ALSO READ | Pakistani company hired Gogoi’s wife, salary paid by Ali Sheikh: Himanta makes big allegations against MPCM Sarma on Sunday leveled allegations against Gogoi that his British wife Elizabeth Colburn had “deeper links” with Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and claimed that intelligence agency information had been secretly passed on to Pakistan. He also claimed that Gogoi made a “very secret” visit to Pakistan in 2013 and was believed to have received “some kind of training” in which the Congress leader dared to confess during the trip or face “rashtra-droh” (treason) charges.Sarma further claimed that Colburn worked with the LEAD Pakistan organization run by Sheikh before being transferred to India and continued to receive a salary from Sheikh, allegedly in violation of the provisions of the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA). He said she gathered information and provided reports to Sheikh after working in India and that Gogoi failed to declare her Pakistani bank accounts in his election affidavit.

Laura Loomer sparks outrage over ‘Bad Bunny’ halftime show ‘promiscuous relationships’ and ‘prostitutes’ comments

Right-wing activist Laura Loomer’s comments about Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show sparked a backlash on social media, criticizing the song choices, stage visuals and what she described as the show’s broader message.

Loomer also commented on the set design, claiming:

In a Feb. 9 X post, Loomer focused on the opening song of Bad Bunny’s performance, writing: “The song Bad Bunny performed tonight to open the halftime show is called ‘My Auntie Asked Me.'”

She added, “The song is about his aunt asking him why he had so many girlfriends. He said he wanted to bring all his girlfriends to the VIP section of the club.”

Loomer went on to comment on the set design, claiming, “You’ll notice that the set he performs on is decorated with EBT logos and women who look like prostitutes.”

She connected the show to social and political issues, “because that’s what we need more of in America, right? More people who don’t speak English having promiscuous relationships with multiple women and having children they can’t raise?”

She further added, “How about we encourage people to be in committed relationships and have a partner?”

Loomer continued his criticism: “If we stop encouraging foreigners to have multiple baby mommies and daddies, we won’t need signs that EBT is accepted here, nor will we need to integrate ESL classes in our schools.”

She concluded her post by writing: “Some people call it ‘entertainment.’ I call it a great alternative.”

Other comments from Laura Loomer

Earlier in the day, Loomer also posted about the halftime show’s opening visual, saying: “The fact that the Super Bowl halftime show begins with a scene involving illegal foreign farm workers is disgraceful.”

“What the hell is this illegal foreign farmworker non-English shit on my TV? Someone call @ICEgov,” she wrote in another post.

A community note below Loomer’s post states that Bad Bunny’s real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, and he is Puerto Rican, a U.S. citizen.

Lu Moye react to posts The article noted that “Puerto Ricans are Americans,” and said, “That’s not the issue. It’s about the refusal to speak English. English is our national language.”

Netizens reacted with anger

Loomer’s comments prompted a backlash from X, with some users accusing her of politicizing entertainment and targeting immigrants.

One user commented: “This feels like politics being projected onto the performance – art is not policy and immigration is not an issue.”

Another countered Loomer’s characterization of the performer, saying, “You’re looking for a reason to hate. We won’t be fooled. Puerto Ricans died and served in WWII and Vietnam. They are part of American history. Just as American as anyone living on the mainland.”

Others added that her comments were designed to stoke anger rather than address the real issues.

Meanwhile, some users also backed Loomer’s criticism of the halftime show. One supporter wrote, “So glad I boycotted it. Yuk,” while another described the show as “absolute rubbish,” adding, “I’d love to know who orchestrated this evil rubbish?”

‘Act of fear’: Woman MP writes to LS Speaker OM Birla, rejecting ‘threatening’ accusations against PM Modi News India

“恐惧行为”:女国会议员写信给LS议长OM Birla,拒绝对莫迪总理的“威胁”指控

Speaker of the People’s House of Bila

New Delhi: A group of women MPs of Congress have written a strongly worded letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker About Birlaaccusing him of making “false and defamatory accusations” against them. The controversy erupted after Bella publicly said he advised the Prime Minister not to go to the House of Representatives over concerns that MPs could cause “inappropriate incidents” near the Prime Minister’s seat.In a three-page letter to Birla, Congress MP S. Jothimani and other women MPs categorically refuted the allegation, saying it was an attempt to divert attention from the government’s refusal to allow the opposition leader to speak.“We write this letter with deep pain and a strong sense of constitutional responsibility. It is extremely unfortunate that you, as Speaker of the Lok Sabha, are forced by the ruling party to make false, baseless and defamatory allegations against women MPs belonging to the opposition,” the letter read.“While discussing the motion of thanks to the President for his address, the established Parliamentary Assembly provides that both the ruling and opposition parties can speak, followed by the Prime Minister’s reply. However, over the past four days, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, has been deliberately denied this opportunity in the Lok Sabha. This is unprecedented and indefensible,” it added. The letter further claimed that eight MPs from the Indian Union were suspended at the behest of the government, while one MP from the BJP was allowed to make “vulgar and obscene” remarks against the former prime minister without facing any consequences.MPs also accused the Speaker of acting on government instructions rather than exercising independent powers.“When we met you, we demanded justice and suspension of the above-mentioned BJP MP, you admitted that a serious mistake had been made and asked us to return at 4 pm. When we met you again, you stated that you were waiting for the government’s response on the issue, which shows that you are no longer the decision-maker in such matters. This raises serious questions about your authority as Speaker of the House,” the letter said.MPs described Bella’s accusation that they had “insulted” the prime minister as an attack on their dignity and credibility.“We are being targeted only because we have been fighting against the anti-people government of Prime Minister Narender Modi and holding him accountable. His absence from the House is not due to any threat from us but an act of fear. He does not have the courage to face the opposition,” it added. The letter came after Speaker Om Birla issued a statement explaining why the prime minister’s scheduled reply in the Lok Sabha was cancelled, a charge the Congress has rejected.“When the Prime Minister was supposed to respond to the President’s address in the House, I received information that several MPs may have created an inappropriate incident near the Prime Minister’s chair… If such an incident occurred, it would tear apart the democratic tradition of the country. To prevent this from happening, I requested the Prime Minister not to come to the House,” Birla said.

Keir Starmer out, Shabana Mahmood in? How Epstein revelations led to Britain’s first Muslim prime minister World News

British Prime Ministers rarely get ruined for what they say. More often than not, they fail because of things they failed to anticipate.Keir Starmer is under increasing pressure not for any personal wrongdoing but for a political misjudgment made at the wrong moment: his decision to return Peter Mandelson to the heart of Labour’s power structure just as the Epstein dossier re-emerged in the public consciousness.Starmer has not been accused of wrongdoing and Mandelson has always denied any wrongdoing. However, British politics does not operate solely on legal thresholds. It operates on perception, timing and instinct. The renewed focus on Epstein has reignited broader unease about elite networks, proximity to power and the immunity of certain figures from consequences. In this climate, Mandelson’s return has become more of a liability than an asset, raising troubling questions not about guilt but about judgement. What unnerves Labor MPs is not the substance of any accusation, but the sense that Starmer failed to appreciate how unforgiving the political moment has become. When the moment called for moral distance and political clarity, his response was procedural and defensive. Once a leader’s judgment is called into question, Westminster’s authority quickly erodes. This is why Starmer’s once presumed retention of the premiership is now openly discussed as conditional.

Why Mandelson became a fault line

British police launch criminal investigation into politician Peter Mandelson over alleged leaks to Epstein

Peter Mandelson is more than just a former minister or adviser. He embodies Labour’s New Labor era, a survivor of past scandals and a symbol of a ruling class that many voters now view with suspicion. With Mandelson’s experience in hand, Starmer showed his ability and seriousness. Instead, he inherits the baggage of an era increasingly seen as divorced from public outrage over privilege and access. The Epstein dossier exacerbated this discomfort. Even without direct accusations, Mandelson’s name has become synonymous with elite proximity, and Starmer’s inability to foresee the backlash has exposed him to criticism within his party. The issue quietly raised by Labor MPs is no longer Mandelson’s behavior but Starmer’s political instincts. In British politics, this is often the beginning of the end.

Succession questions will become inevitable if Starmer falls

Labour’s leadership rules are designed to protect incumbents but fail to protect leaders who have lost the confidence of their parliamentary parties. If Starmer resigns or is forced out, the transition will be swift and pragmatic. When authority breaks down, governments don’t pause to reflect; they act to achieve stability. This has brought renewed attention to a small group of senior figures seen as immediately viable. These include Angela Rayner, Wes Streeting and, increasingly, Shabana Mahmood. This is no longer just media speculation. Betting markets and prediction platforms are already pricing in this scenario with a degree of seriousness. Mahmoud is not seen as the front-runner, but she has been placed among the second-tier contenders, with bookmakers offering odds roughly in the 7/1 to 12/1 range, while prediction markets give her a high single-digit chance of becoming prime minister. These numbers are not an endorsement, but they reflect plausibility. Bookmakers reflect structure, not symbolism.

What are the odds?

UK plans to create 'British FBI', a single police force to conduct nationwide investigations

In the current market, when it comes to who can replace Keir Starmer, Shabana Mahmood is positioned as a solid second-tier contender rather than a long shot. On Polymarket, her implied probability is around 8%, well behind Angela Rayner, who trades in the mid-20s, and Wes Streeting, who typically trades in the mid-10s. Traditional bookmakers broadly reflect the same hierarchy. In recent snapshots, Bet365, William Hill, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power have all priced Mahmood in the 7/1 to 12/1 range, with Rayner and Streeting offering lower and more speculative odds significantly longer. The ranking places Mahmoud between frontrunners and outsiders, suggesting the market sees a plausible route to leadership, even if they don’t yet view her as the most likely outcome.

What does it mean for Mahmoud to be Prime Minister?

If Shabana Mahmood becomes prime minister, Britain will have its first Muslim prime minister. This will be an undeniable historical milestone, but it will come quietly, not triumphantly.Mahmoud never centered her politics around identity mobilization. She doesn’t view the campaign as a symbol, and she has shown little interest in cultural signaling. Her appeal really depends on competence, qualifications and institutional trust. Any history-making will be a by-product of parliamentary arithmetic, not ideological intent.

Who is Shabana Mahmood?

As interior minister, Mahmoud held one of the four major state offices and arguably the most politically punishing branch of government. The Home Office’s authority is tested every day, requiring decisions on borders, policing, national security and public order. This is a role that rewards control and punishes poor judgment.Mahmoud has been the councilor for Birmingham Ladywood since 2010, earning a reputation as a no-nonsense, detail-oriented administrator. She is not a born showrunner in the media age, nor does she seek rhetorical flourishes. Within the government, she was known as methodical, cautious and strong-willed.Her political views were closely aligned with Labour’s governing instincts rather than its activist impulses. On immigration and settlement, she supports a stricter framework related to conduct and contribution. On policing and protest, she highlighted the cumulative impact of public order and disruption. In terms of security and technology, she expressed satisfaction with the expansion and modernization of national capabilities. This positioning gave her wide acceptance within the Labor Party. She may not inspire enthusiasm, but she commands a level of trust that, in times of crisis, is more important than charisma.

Why she can win, why she can’t

Mahmoud’s case hinges on stability. She holds a high position, is scandal-free and already runs one of the most demanding departments in government. In a post-Mandelson era when Labor needs to project seriousness and distance itself from elite complacency, her low-key profile could prove to be an asset.Yet leadership competitions are rarely decided on merit alone. They are shaped by internal alliances, momentum and narrative control. Mahmoud does not yet possess a clear factional machine, and her cautious approach in office may limit her influence in the fast-evolving competition. Most importantly, this future remains hypothetical. Keir Starmer remains Prime Minister and until that changes, every succession scenario remains provisional.

greater irony

If the Epstein fallout and Mandelson’s miscalculation ends Starmer’s tenure as prime minister, if the debacle boosts Shabana’s standing Mahmoud, British politics will complete a quiet historical cycle. The same political system that once divided India and Pakistan along religious lines will within a decade produce a Hindu prime minister, Rishi Sunak, and possibly a Muslim prime minister.History, it turns out, has an irony that the imperial cartographers never planned for.

Want to know how long you really sleep? Apple Health gives the answer | Technology News

0

Sleeping habits are often ignored until fatigue sets in. Apple Health provides a way to record and view sleep patterns using iPhone and Apple Watch, putting your night’s rest data in one dashboard. When enabled, the system records sleep duration, schedule consistency, and time spent in different sleep stages. Here’s how users can set and read results.

Apple Health requires two things to track sleep. Users must turn on Sleep in the Health app on their iPhone and wear a compatible Apple Watch to sleep. While the iPhone can manage the schedule on its own, detailed sleep data is only displayed when the Apple Watch collects data throughout the night.

How to set up sleep in Apple Health

Setup starts in the Health app on your iPhone. Open Health, click Browse, then select Sleep. First-time users will see a settings option. The app guides users through selecting sleep goals, setting bedtime and wake-up times, and deciding whether to follow one schedule each day or make separate plans for weekdays and weekends.

During the setup process, users can also turn on reminders and buffering periods. Wind Down activates features like focus mode before bed to limit interruptions. These options are not required, but they help keep your sleep schedule regular, improving long-term tracking. Once completed, the iPhone will send these settings to the Apple Watch. Users can later edit the schedule under “Full Schedule” and “Options” in the “Sleep” section.

How to prepare your Apple Watch

To record sleep, the Apple Watch must be on your wrist overnight and have sufficient battery power. If the battery is too low, the watch will ask to charge before bed. Sleep Focus automatically activates according to schedule. In the watch settings, users should confirm that sleep tracking is turned on. Thereafter, the watch tracks sleep on its own every night.

How to record sleep data

When Sleep Focus is running, Apple Watch uses motion and heart rate to detect sleep and wake times. Newer models can also identify sleep stages. Apple Health compiles this information into a nightly log. Users do not need to start or stop tracking. If bedtime or wake-up time changes, the data will be adjusted.

To see the results, open Health, click Browse, and then click Sleep. The graph shows the duration of sleep from the previous night. Clicking on it will reveal details such as sleep time, bed time and sleep stages. Users can switch between daily, weekly, or longer-term views to spot trends. Apple Health also shows progress toward sleep goals and updates summaries as more data is collected.
