Election Commission explains why West Bengal and Tamil Nadu are facing SIR, but not Assam

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh slammed the Model Code of Conduct and the poll panel, saying the MCC had become the face of “Modi’s campaign code”.The secretary-general of the X Party in charge of communications wrote in the post, “The Election Committee will announce the timetable for the 2026 parliamentary elections at 4pm today. This will be approved by G2 as G1 will complete this round of inauguration, ribbon cutting, flag lowering and launch.”“The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) of the Election Commission will come into effect soon. But since 2014, this has become the epitome of Modi’s campaign code, which will be filled with defamation, abuse, intimidation, fear-mongering and spreading a virus of lies,” he added.Congress has often used the term “G2” to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is a set of guidelines agreed by political parties to regulate campaigning during elections and ensure that voting, campaigning and counting of votes are conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (RJD) Manoj Kumar Jha also urged the poll panel to ensure impartiality.“I just want to say that the election commissioners should look at their predecessors and act accordingly. Independent and fair elections are not just what is written on paper,” he said.He said the announcement of the election date seemed predictable based on recent political rallies.“The announcement of the election date is a fairly natural process; we’ve taken a hint from the way the Prime Minister’s rally has been held. The Electoral Commission does not appear to be playing an impartial role. We constantly urge them to show impartiality. I think in the future children may read in books: ‘Once upon a time there was an electoral commission that conducted free and fair elections, but not now.’‘”Reacting to the upcoming polls in West Bengal, Kolkata mayor and Trinamool Congress leader Firhad Hakim said elections come and go but his party remains connected with the people throughout the year.“Elections come and go. We are with the people throughout the year. If new people contest elections, will people trust them? The Trinamool Congress is with them in their pain and suffering,” Hakim said.Reacting to the news, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said the party had been waiting for this news for a long time.“We welcome it. We have been waiting for it for a long time. Actually, it should have been announced earlier… I would like to say to the Electoral Commission, there are already a lot of doubts about you, but at least don’t do it so blatantly. The prime minister keeps announcing left and right and then suddenly you think of announcing the date,” he said. The final electoral rolls for four states and the Union Territory of Puducherry have been released as part of the Special Intensified Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
