New Delhi: Opposition membersThe Lok Sabha on Friday questioned the government’s decision to propose amendments to the Women’s Quota Act, 2023 before the main bill comes into force and sought clarification from the Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal due to procedural errors.Congress MP KC Venugopal pointed out that the Law Ministry issued a notification late last night calling for the 2023 law to come into effect from April 16, just before an amendment bill to the bill was introduced and discussed in the House.
He posted on “It is shocking that the government has made changes to a constitutional provision that has not even been gazetted! This shows the government’s unpreparedness and cavalier approach to serious legislation,” he said.“Although the 2023 Constitutional Amendment Bill became law, it did not become part of the Constitution as the government did not bring it into effect by notifying its effective date.DMK’s Kanimozhi also pointed out this issue during the debate. Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Kalatika” attack on her party’s protest against the Women’s Quota Act amendment, she said black is the color of goddess Kali and the ruling party in Tamil Nadu will protest to the end on this issue.
