Canadian PR News: Ontario has announced an overhaul of its Provincial Nominee Program, adding three new pathways to becoming a permanent resident. In Canada, each province sets its own citizenship criteria, while the federal government runs multiple national PR programs. Provincial programs also offer permanent residence to individuals in the same manner as Express Entry, but when a province nominates someone for permanent residence, they should only work in that province.On June 26, Ontario announced a new PR path
- TEER 0-3 Pathway – For workers in highly skilled occupations.
- TEER 4-5 Pathway – For workers in low-skilled occupations.
- Self-Employed Physician – For registered physicians who are eligible for billing through the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
TEER 0-3
- Applicants must have a full-time, permanent job offer from a qualified Ontario employer in a TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 occupation.
- Possess a post-secondary certificate in a program requiring at least one year of full-time study.
- Meet the minimum language proficiency requirements in English or French relevant to their occupation: Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 6 or CLB 5.
Level 4-5
- This pathway is available to foreigners in occupations that typically require only secondary education and/or a few weeks of on-the-job training.
- Have a full-time, permanent job offer from a qualifying Ontario employer in a TEER 4 or 5 occupation that pays at least the median wage for that occupation.
- Have at least nine months of cumulative work experience within the past two years in the same job with the same employer as the qualifying Ontario job offer.
- Possess a secondary school diploma or equivalent.
- At least CLB 4 in English or French.
Self-employed physician pathway requirements
Be licensed as a physician in good standing in Ontario and have a valid certificate of registration as an independent, academic or provisional practitioner.Eligible for billing through OHIP.
