Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday told Parliament that it has not proposed setting up women commissions in the Union Territory as the National Commission for Women has already set up a special ‘J&K and Ladakh Cell’, which was set up after the abrogation of Article 370.“I see no reason why the government should not set up a women’s commission, which is an important body for women’s empowerment,” Sajjad Lone of the People’s Conference said in a cuts motion.Reminding the LG that the government had approved the reconstitution of the Jammu and Kashmir Women’s Commission in February 2022, Lone said, “I don’t understand why the government is not taking this process forward.”He accused Omar’s government of neglecting issues related to women, children and teenagers.The former National Commission for Women was shut down on October 23, 2019, after the abrogation of Article 370, with over 5,000 cases pending.
