The department said responding officers attempted to control the crowd by repeatedly asking everyone to leave the area. However, fights broke out at several places and the police intervened to de-escalate the situation. The department said multiple officers were assaulted during the process. These included two police officers, one of whom can allegedly be seen in the viral video, who suffered minor injuries.
Several people were arrested in connection with the incident on Saturday, police said in a statement.
“Attacks on law enforcement are unacceptable and perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” the department said. “The safety of residents and visitors remains our top priority. We appreciate the cooperation of the many attendees who complied with officer instructions.”

Pensacola police said the children, mostly middle school students or older, were participating in fireworks when things turned violent. The shooting occurred around 1:00 a.m. Sunday. Police found multiple victims at the scene, including an unconscious 19-year-old man. Police attempted CPR on the 19-year-old, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Six other people were injured, police added.
“She deserves justice, she deserves answers, and we’re going to do whatever we can to get those answers for her,” Pensacola Police Chief Eric Winstrom said of the 19-year-old’s mother.
