Nolan Wells’ friend reveals what happened on Horn Island
Shepard claimed the voice in the video was his own, not Wells’.
“That’s me yelling…there’s no talk of the phone in the video,” Wells’ friend told the publication. According to Sheppard, he told friend Jayvon Williams and a family member who restrained him and asked him to get off the boat so he could continue fighting.
According to Shepard, Nolan was not “on the island” at the time. Friends of the deceased said there had been an altercation between him and a stranger, who allegedly started the fight. According to Shepard, he and a group of friends, including Wells, began drinking on multiple boats in the late morning. Their friends were on these boats and they came to the island for an outing. This was meant to be the “last hurray” before returning to school or work after the holidays.

There are nearly 300 people on the island, many of whom are former high school classmates. Later that day, their boat needed to return to shore due to power issues, Shepherd said. However, Wells wanted to stay, saying he had met a girl and would return later on another friend’s boat.
The teenager’s body was found on the island’s shore on Monday. While authorities believe he drowned, they are still investigating the matter. Autopsy results are not yet available.
Shepherd recalled Wells, saying he had known the teen since his freshman year at Ocean Springs High School. He said Wells was “just a guy you just naturally felt comfortable talking to.” Shepard added, “No one in our circle of friends would hurt Nolan. We would die for him. We would do anything we could for that guy. If he needed something, we would do it. Nolan brought us together.”
Crump, the family attorney handling the case, said it was suspicious that Wells’ phone was found with his friend. However, Shepard claims this is not unusual as many people leave their phones on the deck after spending the day in the water – which is too salty.
Crump considered “snoozed”? New video sparks outrage
Although Shepard disputed some of Crump’s claims, an alleged video surfaced online claiming the attorney “nozed off” during the interview.
“Ben Crump may have broken up with them too. I don’t think the check got cashed… Ben Crump was seen dozing off during the live interview,” the person who shared the video claimed.
While the lawyer appears to have his eyes closed in the video, there’s no concrete indication that Crump dozed off, as he was probably just listening with his eyes closed like many people did.
