John Jumper said that after working at Google DeepMind for nearly nine years, he decided to leave the company. According to the latest post on X, he said that after taking some time off and recharging, he will join the artificial intelligence startup Anthropic. Jumper describes how he Google deep thinking as an important part of his career and said he is grateful for the experience.

Jumper said DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis gave him a chance to lead the AlphaFold team just six months after completing his Ph.D. He said the entire Google DeepMind team helped him learn how to conduct high-quality scientific research. Jumper added that Google DeepMind remains a special place and that he will continue to monitor the company’s future discoveries. Jumper has not revealed what role he will play Anthropic selection. He simply said he plans to take some time to recharge before embarking on the next phase of his career.

According to Business Insider, Jumper led the development of AlphaFold, Google’s artificial intelligence system that can predict the three-dimensional structure of a protein based on its amino acid sequence. AlphaFold became one of the most important artificial intelligence breakthroughs in biology and medical research. The system helps scientists understand how proteins are built and function in organisms.

Hassabis praises jumper’s contribution

AlphaFold’s achievements will have a lasting impact on science, Business Insider quoted Hassabis as saying. He said AlphaFold changed the world and showed how artificial intelligence can be used to advance science and medicine. Hassabis said the project demonstrates how artificial intelligence can benefit humanity.

Jumper and Hassabis share the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their work on AlphaFold. The award recognizes the scientific importance of using artificial intelligence to solve complex biological problems.

The jump reflects broader trends in the artificial intelligence industry
