New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed student activist Umar Khalid, accused in the 2020 Delhi riots case, for a review petition against his earlier verdict rejecting bail.“After reviewing the review petition and the documents on record, we do not find any valid grounds to review the judgment dated January 1, 2026. Therefore, the review petition is dismissed,” the court said.
In a January ruling, the Supreme Court denied bail to Khalid while granting relief to five co-accused. It noted that a lengthy prison sentence cannot be considered a “truce” or “path to bail” even before a trial officially begins.Umar Khalid was booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots case.
