Newton tornado: Video shows huge tornado on ground in Jasper County, IL; Willow Hill on alert in Hutsonville
National Weather Service (National Weather Service) confirmed a tornado over Newton, illinois4:12 PM CDT, moving northeast at 35 mph and remained above ground until 4:30 PM CDT. A large tornado was spotted near Newton in Jasper County, and residents in Willow Mountain and surrounding areas are urged to take shelter immediately.

The storm warning extends to west-central Crawford County and eastern Jasper County, including Yale, Sam Parr State Park, Hunter City and the Sam Parr State Fish and Wildlife Area.
Video posted by weather account Max Velocity showed a large black funnel appearing over the Newton area as the storm pushed northeast.

The warning moved from Newton to Willow Hills, Hasenville and St. mary
The original 4:03 pm warning described radar showing a spin near Newton, moving northeast at 40 mph. Nine minutes later, the National Weather Service said a tornado was confirmed over Newton. A new tornado warning was issued for parts of Clark and Crawford counties at 4:34 p.m. The confirmed tornado was located near Oberon, about 9 miles northwest of Robinson, and was still moving northeast at 35 mph.
Hutsonville and St. Marie was placed in the storm’s path around 4:50 PM Central Time.
The alert, labeled an “extreme” and “immediate” emergency, warned of damaging tornadoes and quarter-sized hail. Flying debris could threaten anyone without shelter, and mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed, reports said. The warning said tornadoes could cause flying debris and could damage roofs, windows, vehicles and trees.

The National Weather Service told residents to “take shelter immediately” and move to basements or interior rooms on the lowest floors of sturdy buildings. Willow Hill was listed in the path of a tornado around 4:15 p.m. Central Time. Other locations mentioned in the warning include Yale University, Hunter City and Sam Parr State Park.
Residents are advised to immediately seek shelter in the basements of the lowest floors of large buildings or indoors, away from windows, as the storm is also expected to affect St. Louis. Mary, Robinson, Flat Rock and Palestine.
The National Weather Service asks that if you are outdoors, in a mobile home or car, go to the nearest large shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
