The suspect attacked multiple people in a series of stabbings near West 31st Street and Seventh Avenue, just steps from Penn Station, according to authorities. madison square garden.

Authorities confirmed that a suspect was detained shortly after the attack and that there was no ongoing threat to the public.

The FDNY reported the incident at West 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue around 7:02 p.m.

The incident occurred in midtown Manhattan, a high-traffic area frequented by commuters, tourists and attendees of Madison Square Garden events. Emergency crews attended the scene as police secured control of the area.

Five of the six injured were taken to Bellevue Hospital, according to FDNY officials. One person was seriously injured, two were moderately injured, and two were slightly injured.

Gothamist reported that a sixth patient was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. The FDNY did not immediately disclose the person’s condition.

Law enforcement officers quickly located the suspect and arrested him without further incident. Investigators have not publicly identified the person

Authorities did not immediately release any information about the cause of the stabbing or a possible motive.

President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday at Madison Square Garden above Penn Station.

The stabbing took place at one of the city’s busiest transport hubs on the eve of the game.

The event has prompted increased security around the stadium and nearby streets in anticipation of the president’s visit. The Secret Service, NYPD and other agencies are expected to play a large role in the nationally televised game.

Authorities did not immediately disclose the impact of the stabbing on security measures at Monday night’s game.
