New Jersey bus fire: Cause, passenger update

Passengers spoke to Eyewitness News and shared details about what may have led to the fire. They were traveling from Newark to New York City when they said they appeared to hit a pothole. Smoke was reported later.

Authorities have not yet revealed the official cause of the fire.

It is believed there were about 25 to 30 passengers on the bus when the fire broke out. They were reportedly able to evacuate themselves from the bus.

Some people reacted to news of the bus fire, while others reacted to the traffic jams caused by the fire. “New Jersey’s transit system is having a dumpster fire!” one person exclaimed on X.

Another added: “No rubber necking or slowing down backup traffic??” Many asked if everyone got off safely and if those on board were safe. According to latest reports, there were no signs of injuries.

Others expressed concern, saying “Why would they let traffic pass by??? Wouldn’t it explode???”.
