A 38-year-old Indian-origin man, Vishal Bhatt, was arrested in a surprising incident that began with a call to the police station. According to police in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Bart received a ticket on January 28 and called the police department to complain. The comments he made on the phone didn’t seem right to the officers on the call, and some officers were dispatched to his address to conduct a welfare check. When police arrived, they found Bart sitting in his car. After seeing the police, he started his car and fled the scene. A brief chase ensued, but Bart ran a stop sign, improperly passed another vehicle, and nearly hit another vehicle, putting everyone on the road at risk. The police stopped the pursuit, but Butt himself called the police department multiple times to brag about how he had escaped the police. One day later, on January 30, Bart was found and arrested in Clifton. He was charged with evading police and multiple motor vehicle offenses including operating a vehicle unsafely, changing lanes unsafely, failing to stop for an emergency vehicle, failing to hold a driver’s license or insurance and speeding across a sidewalk. He was transported to the Bergen County Jail, according to detailed reports. “As soon as Mr. Butt saw the officers, he sped off and ran through the stop sign. He then improperly passed another vehicle and nearly hit an oncoming vehicle. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but Vishal accelerated at a high rate of speed, illegally passing the vehicle and putting the motoring public at risk,” Capt. Jeff Yannacone said in a release. “Officers terminated all attempts to stop Vishal but were able to positively identify him as the driver of the vehicle.Yanacone said that after the incident, Butt called the police department multiple times and began “bragging” about his ability to evade police.
