Savannah’s reasons for returning to work

During the conversation, she opened up about her struggles returning to a job known for its upbeat tone.

“It’s hard to imagine doing that because it’s such a joyful and relaxing place and I can’t come back and try to be someone I’m not,” she said.

But she also explained why she felt she had to come back, saying: “But I couldn’t not come back because this is my family. I think it’s part of my purpose now.”

“I want to smile. When I smile, it will be real. My joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer. Be happy there. If not, I will say so. I am so grateful to have this family. I think this is my family, my greater family, and when times are hard, you want to be with your family. I want to be with my family,” she added.

In the first part of her interview with Kotb, Savannah has given viewers a sense of just how devastating the past few months have been.

“We’re in pain. We’re in pain. It’s unbearable. Thinking about what she’s been through. I wake up in the middle of the night every night, every night,” she said.

“In the dark, I imagine her fear, which is unimaginable, but these thoughts need to be thought about. I won’t hide my face. But she needs to go home now,” she added.
