Nancy Guthrie update: Pima County Sheriff’s Department makes arrest near kidnapped woman’s home

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) announced Thursday the arrest of a person nearby Nancy GuthrieThe search continues at the 84-year-old’s home.

Guthrie was reported missing on February 1 and authorities believe she is the mother of the “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie She had been taken the night before from her home in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona. It had been months since Guthrie’s disappearance, and the case had attracted national attention given that Savannah was a household name through her work at NBC.

While the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which is handling the case, announced today the arrest of a person near Guthrie’s home, they have not officially announced any suspects in the case. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest arrest.

The statement came from Sheriff Chris Nanos, who has been in the spotlight as the search for Guthrie continues.

The statement read: “PCSD made an arrest after receiving a complaint near Nancy Guthrie’s home.” The report pointed out that police arrested 54-year-old Alexander Zabel Jr. near Guthrie’s home. Zabel Jr is a YouTuber who runs the CrimeNetwork channel. This isn’t his first run-in with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. He was previously arrested for setting up a “pee tent” and dumping urine in plain sight nearby, according to reports.

The statement added: “PCSD received several complaints regarding Mr. Zabel’s conduct. At the time of the incident, Mr. Zabel was live-streaming outside his residence. Officers made contact with him and during the arrest, a PCSD officer was knocked to the ground. Mr. Zabel was subsequently taken into custody without further incident.”

He was charged with resisting arrest (Level 6 felony) and public nuisance (Level 2 misdemeanor), PCSD noted. Zabel Jr. has been booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Facility.

PCSD is already in Odds with Streamersmany also questioned the legality of the arrests as they constituted a public nuisance. While residents and many locals want the strangers to leave their neighborhood, anchors following the case insist they have the right to stay there because they are on public property.

Still, news of the arrests sparked more backlash than appreciation as people demanded results for the kidnapping.

Another offered a different perspective on the exchange between Zabel Jr and PCSD representatives. “I just saw him kidnapped and tortured, it was horrific! They didn’t even tell him to stand up or that he was arrested until they had him processed manually! Immunity doesn’t work on this guy, out of state attorney!! There was no crime here,” they claim.

Another chastised Nanos and his team, and explain “Why don’t you go find the missing 84 year old woman. Such a corrupt department and the worst Sheriff in America. I don’t understand why he’s still in office.”
