Nancy Guthrie Update: Ex-FBI Agent Gives 3 Possible Motives for Suspect After ‘Wrench Strike’ Allegations

It’s been nearly four months since Nancy Guthrie disappeared, but investigators have made little progress in solving the case. Speaking about the case in a social media post, Coffendaver explored three possible motives behind the mysterious disappearance and questioned whether the suspect might have been involved in a larger crime.

3 theories about the “Porch Man” from a former FBI agent

The “wrench attack” theory

one The theories she discussed So-called “spanner attacks” are possible, a term often used to describe violent crimes in which victims are physically threatened or attacked in order to obtain financial assets.

Coffendaver said it would be unusual for the victim to be killed if the suspect was hired through criminal channels or the dark web to intimidate Nancy Guthrie for financial gain.

“If this was a wrench attack, would the wrench facilitator kill the person? The answer is no,” Coffendaver said, noting that such criminals often avoid unnecessary escalations to avoid additional law enforcement attention.

The “Hired Killer” Theory

Coffendaver also addressed the possibility that the suspect could have been hired by someone else. But she also expressed skepticism about the theory, arguing that contract-based crime increased the number of people who knew about the operation. It increases the risk of exposure.

“If this was an attack by someone who hired someone to commit a crime, would that person kill them? I doubt it,” she explained. “Too many people know.”

Suspect acting alone theory

Instead, the former FBI agent appeared to believe in a scenario in which the suspect may have acted alone out of anger or revenge against the Guthrie family. In such cases, she believes identifying a suspect could become extremely difficult unless someone close to the suspect comes forward or investigators discover usable clues. DNA evidence.

“Very few people knew who was on the porch, which is why no one came forward,” she said.
