Nancy Guthrie remains missing and authorities have yet to find the 84-year-old. She was reported missing by her family, including the Today show host, Savannah GuthrieFebruary 1. Authorities later said they believed she was taken from her home near Tucson, Arizona.

While the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office have yet to track down her or the kidnappers, Sheriff Chris Nanos cleared the Guthrie family’s name, saying they were not suspects. In the past few days, there have been constant speculations about the son-in-law on the Internet. Tommaso Scioniand his wife, Anne Guthrie.
However, the case took a new turn after law enforcement officers were spotted talking to Guthrie’s neighbors. In addition, reports that “natural gold” was stolen from the Tucson Minerals Show also sparked heated discussion.
“Yesterday at approximately 4:02 p.m., a gold coin from Breckenridge (in a Riker marked Harvard Collection box) was removed from one of our display cases without payment. In the first video, you can see the person wearing white removing the item from the display case (swipe to see the full footage). If you recognize this person or have any information, please contact us directly. We appreciate your help in keeping our community safe,” the post states.
Links to the video and screenshots were widely circulated online. “This piece of natural gold was part of a collection on loan from Harvard and was stolen by these clowns at the Tucson Mineral Show,” one person said commented.
As the stills circulated, many people claimed they spotted similarities to the people in the Guthrie home video.
The FBI released a video showing a man wearing a ski mask and black gloves searching for the octogenarian.
Claims in the Nancy Guthrie Case
“Call me crazy but does he look like a snub-nosed kidnapper? The shoes look familiar too,” one person commented.
Another added, “I don’t know if this is the same, but if not, definitely should look into it. There are a lot of similarities, like shoes and facial hair. It’s hard to tell the height, but looks pretty average.”
More charges were tied to Guthrie’s case when an independent investigative reporter based in Tucson reported that police were talking to neighbors of Guthrie’s “participation in the gem show.”
“Did the criminal go to the wrong house?” ask.
The idea was echoed by many, with one commenting: “Oh this could be something. Maybe a connection? Did the perp go to the wrong house in the first place? Damn.” Another said: “Is this a gem show that the neighbors are loading? Is this a neighbor camera they forwarded today or something?”
Someone else tagged the FBI Phoenix
“This is Nancy Guthrie’s neighbor. He was seen loading all these boxes into his car at the Tucson Gem Show. Did whoever took Nancy find the wrong house? Maybe Pete Megaw was the target,” one person also speculated.
While reports of the theft from the gem show came during the search for Guthrie and sparked speculation, officials have not confirmed a connection between the two incidents. Law enforcement has not linked the two incidents. Guthrie allegedly received a ransom note after his kidnapping.
