In an interview with the BBC, private investigator Dan Ribacoff expressed a depressing view of the case. He believes it may have been a kidnapping, which would explain the lack of significant progress in the investigation.
If Guthrie had died during the incident, the situation would have been classified as “a murder and not just a kidnapping,” International Investigative Group founder Dan Ribakov said.
“This could drive criminals underground,” Ribakov said. “He didn’t want to release … where the bodies were buried because he didn’t want to expose himself.”

Rybakov agrees with the Guessliss that the notes may be authentic. He added that if the abduction had gone as planned, the chances of finding Nancy alive and making an arrest would have increased.
He told the BBC: “I believe if a ransom had been paid, she might have been released, which would have yielded more leads – possibly through IP addresses or phone records or something like that, but the evidence went cold very quickly after the abduction.”
It’s disturbing to think about the possibility that this crime could take another turn, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie’s replacement, Laura Jarrett, has revealed that she is skipping the Today show on Friday, June 26, to “get a head start” on the weekend.
