Investigative journalist Jonathan Lee Riches, who goes by the handle @JLRINVESTIGATES on X, shared a post that included a video of Anne reciting the poem, which netizens claimed she had written. “From a poetry reading, 2015. ‘Dear Missing,’” the original post was titled.
JLR writes: “Annie Guthrie read a poem in 2015 called ‘Dear Missing! Where is Nancy Guthrie?’
“The next few poems are from the chorus, the middle section,” Anne said before beginning the poem.
“Dear yearning, a passage in the land, gestures and prominences, but no contact. The currents, rushing, drown out every voice I call into it,” the poem reads.
“The shape of the shore disappears into the count of the sand, the count disappears into the sound. If I could, I would rearrange us, push myself, shell letters, shelve us and let the water emerge within us, just like yours,” it added.
