“The public is urged to remain vigilant and not to send money to anyone claiming to be raising funds related to this case. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or 88-CRIME,” concluded the statement, signed by the Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.

The current reward for information leading to Nancy’s return is $1 million, out of an initial $200,000 offered by the FBI and Tucson Crime Stoppers.

Nanos told KOLD on March 23: “We have a lot in front of us. We believe we have sufficient evidence in front of us. Will the evidence dry up? Am I wrong? Of course. Everything is possible, but we will not give up.”

Chris Nanos says Nancy Guthrie investigation not a cold case

Nanos also said Nancy’s case is “nowhere near” a cold case. “We have some DNA We think it’s still feasible. ” he said during a 45-minute interview on The Bill Buckmaster Show on KVOI AM 1030 with longtime Tucson host Bill Buckmaster and Arizona Daily Star columnist Tim Steller.

Speaking about the investigation, Nanos said the Sheriff’s Department is still working with the FBI, labs and forensic examiners across the country and “we still have thousands (hours) of video footage to sort through.”

“This case will get us there. We let the evidence show us the way, and that’s what we base everything on,” Nanos said. “Right now, it’s all speculation. We have nothing in front of us to prove ‘who did this and this is why’.”

Nanos further said the case was “unlike anything we’ve seen in Tucson in years.”
