Senior politician, former Railway Minister Mukul Roy He died of cardiac arrest at the age of 71 at Apollo Hospital in Salt Lake City, Kolkata at 1.30 am on Monday. His son Subhranshu Roy confirmed the news. Often called the “Chanakya of Bengal politics”, he represents Krishna Nagar Uttar in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. During his long career, he also served as the 32nd Railway Minister and was twice elected to the West Bengal Federal Assembly.Roy was one of the founding members of the organization All India Trinamool Congress The party was established in 1998. He joined the BJP in 2017 due to differences with the party leadership.In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Roy won the Uttar Krishnagar Uttar seat by a margin. bjp votes but later returned to the Trinamool Congress after the polls. During his political career, he also served as Railway Minister in the UPA-2 government in 2011 when the Trinamool Congress party was part of the ruling alliance at the Centre.
