New Delhi: A day after India expressed condolences over the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar briefly met Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Sajid Khatibzadeh on the sidelines of Resina Dialogue 2026. Jaishankar posted a photo of his meeting with an Iranian minister.Khatibzadeh was speaking at the Raisina Dialogue in India. After his arrival, the Iranian authorities contacted the Middle East Petroleum Authority and requested a meeting with the Indian authorities.“It is important that everyone supports international law and we hope that we do not find fault with international law. Now international law is under attack as is Iran and unfortunately the principles of international law are under attack and we must unite against these atrocities,” Khatibzadeh said.External Affairs Minister Vikram Misri signed a letter of condolence at the Iranian Embassy on Thursday and Jaishankar also spoke to External Affairs Minister Syed Araghchi.According to Iranian authorities, Araghchi spoke with Jaishankar Jaishankar and Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijita Herat about the U.S. sinking of an Iranian warship in Lanka’s exclusive economic zone.During the talks, the Iranian foreign minister described “the crimes committed by the US and Israeli regimes in recent days” as part of military aggression against Iran and stressed the responsibility of all governments and the United Nations to firmly condemn these acts, Tehran reported.Iran said it also strongly condemned the “criminal attack” by the United States on the Iranian naval ship “Dena” in international waters about 2,000 miles away from the Iranian coast without prior warning, and stressed that relevant international agencies will pursue this crime through legal and international channels.
