The Rx Kids Assistance Program is designed to help cover expenses during pregnancy and the first few months of your baby’s life, when costs can quickly add up.

Jackson and Blackman Township Project Introduction

The Rx Kids initiative is supported by officials in the towns of Jackson and Blackman, Michigan.

During pregnancy, families can receive $1,500 from the program. The plan will also pay $500 per month for the first 6 to 12 months of a baby’s life.

The plan was presented to the council by the nonprofit Jackson Community Foundation. In a unanimous vote on Feb. 10, the Jackson City Council agreed to provide $15,000 annually for three years to support the initiative.

Monica Moser, president and CEO of the Jackson Community Foundation, said the organization must raise $313,335 each year for three years to start in Jackson and Blackman townships with about $2.5 million in state funding each year.

The nonprofit said funding has been provided by Dawn Foods, Consumers Energy Charities and Henry Ford Jackson Hospital.

What is the Rx Kids program?

Dr. Mona Hanna founded Rx Kids in Flint in 2024, the first “cash prescription” program for moms and babies.

According to the official website of the Rx Kids program, Rx Kids claims to increase opportunity, hope, and health. Before a child is born, many families experience a sharp drop in income and a spike in expenses that continues throughout the first year.

Rx Kids builds on the critical operation of the child tax credit. According to the Rx Kids website, child tax credit Reduce child poverty to “historically low levels”.

The initiative invites towns, health departments and charitable organizations to submit applications in January to introduce Rx Kids to their communities. These participating areas include Flint, Kalamazoo, Pontiac, Upper Peninsula, Dearborn, Highland Park, Auckland Royal Oak, Lake County and other counties and towns have been expanding in recent months.
