first lady Melania Trump Just two days before Saturday’s show, ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel called her a “quasi-widow” and harshly denounced him as a “coward.” White House Correspondents’ dinner.
“Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is designed to divide our country. His monologue about my family was not comedy – his words were corrosive and deepened the political pathology within the United States.” Melania Trump56, said in a post on X.
“People like Kimmel should not have the opportunity to come into our homes every night and spread hate.”
The first lady also accused the Disney-owned network of protecting the host and urged ABC to intervene and remove him from the show.
“Kimmel is a coward hiding behind ABC because he knows the broadcasters will continue to cover to protect him,” she wrote.
“Enough is enough. It’s time for ABC to take a stand. How many more times will ABC’s leadership allow Kimmel’s brutal behavior at the expense of our community?”

The comedian came under heavy criticism after a shooting at a dinner party on Saturday. A Secret Service agent was slightly injured after a gunman attempted to breach a checkpoint in an attempt to assassinate President Trump and other members of his administration.
Kimmel teased the dinner in advance on Thursday night’s show, saying in his speech: “Our first lady, Melaniahere. Look at Melania, how beautiful she is. Mrs. Trump, you are as radiant as a soon-to-be widow. “
Days later, a gunman opened fire at the annual event in Washington, D.C. and was detained at the scene. Attorney General Todd Branch said investigators suspect the shooter, 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen, was targeting individuals associated with the Trump administration.
In response to the incident, Trump supporters criticized Kimmel for making a joke about Melania, even though it was a joke made days earlier.
On X, right-wing political commentator Benny Johnson proposed that ABC, the broadcaster that broadcast Kimmel, should “issue a full on-air apology” to the host or risk losing its broadcast license.
Larry O’Connor, editor of the conservative platform Townhall, called Kimmel a “broken man” and said on X, “@Disney you have a problem.”
