Earlier this week, Bear Expressing his concerns that Matt might have committed suicide, he confirmed Saturday night that authorities had identified the body found in the Okanogan River as belonging to his brother.

“A few hours ago, they found a body in the river that was identified as Matt,” Bell said in a video statement. Tik Tok.

Noah Brown, the youngest of Brown’s seven siblings, was the first family member to discover Matt’s body and assist with recovery efforts, Bell said.

“Noah helped them pull the body out of the water, Noah confirmed [Matt],” he said.

Bell said he believed Matt committed suicide, noting that the coroner still must examine his body to determine an official cause of death.

“It never occurred to me that Matt would hurt himself. It definitely looked like he was self-inflicted,” Bell said, noting that his brother had struggled with alcoholism and drug addiction, in addition to “other issues” that he kept to himself.

On Wednesday, the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office reported they received a 911 call from a person who saw a male sitting in the shallow water of the Okanogan River. The caller said they heard a noise and found the man face down in the water before he was swept away.

A firearm was found near the Okanogan River where the man was last seen, according to law enforcement.

Authorities launched a search; however, they initially failed to find him and had to suspend operations due to dangerous river conditions.

According to family sources who spoke to TMZ, most members of the Brown family cut ties with Matt about five years ago, citing their inability to support him due to his ongoing battle with drug addiction. One of his siblings, Gabe Brown, remains the only family member who remains in contact with Matt. However, these interactions are thought to be rare.

Bell refuted claims that his family had ostracized him in recent years, claiming Matt “wanted nothing to do with the family.”

Bell further mentioned that Matt has been dealing with a challenging breakup recently.

Concerns about Matt escalated last week after he shared a livestream on YouTube in which he was naked, speaking incoherently and was seen holding what appeared to be a gun.

From 2014 to 2019, Matt appeared in 79 episodes of Alaskan Bush People, which showcased his parents, Billy and Ami, as well as his siblings.
