A violent tornado ripped through Aroma Park and south Kankakee, Illinois, on Tuesday, causing widespread damage. Videos and social media reports showed extensive damage to many homes and buildings.

Some unconfirmed reports, citing local scanners, claimed authorities had declared a “mass casualty incident” and reported a death toll.
Officials debunk casualty reports
The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office clarified in a Facebook post that the reports were false. “We are aware of some rumors circulating on social media that tonight’s incident resulted in multiple deaths at KCC (Kankakee Community College).” tornado.
