New Delhi: Manchester United A big step towards ensuring safety Champions League 2-1 win over Brentford at Old Trafford. Early goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesco put them in control of the game and they held on despite a late goal from Matthias Jensen. The result keeps United in third place in the table, now 11 points ahead of sixth, meaning they only need two more points from four games to confirm their return to the Champions League.United came out strong and created chances within minutes. Under early pressure, Casemiro opened the scoring with a header from a corner kick, continuing his recent good form. The veteran midfielder, who could leave at the end of the season, celebrated enthusiastically as fans urged him to stay. Brentford had a couple of chances through Igor Thiago and others but failed to convert and United made them pay. Sesco doubled the lead just before half-time with a fluid move initiated by Amad Diallo and set up by Bruno Fernandez.United slowed things down in the second half, allowing Brentford to grow into the game. Jensen’s superb long-range strike in the 87th minute made the game tense, but United kept their cool in the final moments.Under interim manager Michael Carrick, United have recovered well after a difficult start to the season. With a crucial game against Liverpool looming, the win cements their position as they bid to finish in the top three and return to Europe’s top flight.
