A Rhode Island couple spent more than $600 on a Donald Trump-branded watch and were shocked when the product arrived with an error.Tim Petit purchased the watch as a gift for his wife Melanie after hearing a radio ad by US President Donald Trump promoting a line of luxury watches. While browsing the website, Tim spotted a silver and pink model that he thought his wife would like and paid $640 for it. But when the watch arrived, the couple noticed something was wrong.Instead of showing Trump’s full last name, the watch read “Rump.”“I noticed it right away,” Melanie told WJAR.She added: “How can they deal with this and get something done without checking their own work?”The watch has a pink face with Trump’s signature and an image of fireworks, but the missing “T” turns a special gift into a disappointing experience.According to the couple, Melanie was so upset about the mistake that she cried after seeing the watch.Tim said he had expected better quality from a product bearing the U.S. president’s name.“I wanted to do something special for her. We wanted it to reflect the integrity and good follow-through of the President of the United States,” he told WJAR.The couple said they tried contacting the company to resolve the issue but initially did not receive a response.“We want this issue to be rectified correctly and quickly. [And] Apologizing would make my wife cry,” Tim told WJAR.That changed after a local news outlet contacted the company on behalf of the couple. The watchmaker subsequently responded, offering the couple an $800 gift card and sending a replacement watch that correctly bore Trump’s full last name. The watches were marketed using Trump’s image and voice. In a promotional video on the company’s website, Trump said: “Hi, I’m President Donald J. Trump and it’s Trump time.”“Get your watch today!” he added. However, the company said in its terms that it is not officially part of the Trump administration. Fine print on the site says Trump’s likeness is used under a paid licensing agreement with CIC Digital LLC and that the products “are not designed, owned, managed or controlled by Donald J. Trump, the Trump Organization, CIC Digital LLC, or any of their respective principals or affiliates.”The company also maintains a strict return policy, stating that “all sales [are] final. “
