A child manages to escape a family massacre Louisiana Jumping from a residential roof over the weekend. The incident occurred when Shamar Elkins, a 31-year-old Army veteran, went on a shooting spree at his Shreveport residence.
The distraught father claimed the lives of his seven children and one of their cousins during a violent clash in the early hours of the morning. Elkins, who was going through a divorce, shot his estranged spouse and girlfriend in the head before stealing their car, sparking a police chase that ended with law enforcement fatally shooting him in neighboring Bossier City. Both women survived the attack.

The surviving child is a 12-year-old girl

It was previously reported that the surviving child was a 13-year-old boy. However, Bordelon corrected the message Monday afternoon.
“He had some injuries, some broken bones, but we do expect him to recover,” Bordelon told KSLA. “We’re very grateful that he was able to escape.”

Bordelon told PEOPLE in a revised statement that the girl is not the suspect’s child.
