Fans and college football enthusiasts are remembering the late legendary Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz, who died at age 89, not only for his coaching accomplishments but also for his fearless outlook. One of the most talked about moments of his later years was his blunt comments about Ohio State and coach Ryan Day.

Holtz made headlines before Notre Dame’s 2023 game against Ohio State when he predicted a Notre Dame win and claimed Day’s team was “soft.”
“He’s lost twice to Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Michigan — all the guys who beat them because they were more physical than Ohio State. I think Notre Dame is going to take the same approach,” Holtz reportedly said.
Day didn’t back down after Ohio State’s dramatic 17-14 victory over Notre Dame in South Bend.
“I wonder where Lou Holtz is now. The things he said about our team, I couldn’t believe it,” Day said.
“This is a tough team here. We’re proud to be from Ohio State. Ohio State has always been against the world. And it will continue to be Ohio State against the world. I love these kids and we have a tough team.”
