Residents of Leesburg, Virginia, reported a huge explosion Friday night. Many people use the “X” to describe the sudden boom that comes with a flash of light. Leesburg is located in Loudoun County, virginia.
One person wrote: “The sound was short and loud enough to shake my house (near Lansdowne, East Leesburg) and there may have been a flash of light, but I can’t be sure. It happened at exactly 10:49.”
Another added, “I heard and felt it (for a short time, maybe a second) east of Leesburg.”
A third resident reported: “I heard/felt it. Just at 10:49. Loudoun police are searching different areas around Leesburg for the source but have not found any yet. Police scanners show they are searching and still investigating.”
Another person added: “About 40 minutes ago, my family and many others in Leesburg heard a loud bang. Based on scanner traffic, the noise could be heard throughout central and western Loudoun County.”
Investigative reporter AJ Perez also shared an update on X’s situation, writing: “Fire trucks and other rescue vehicles circled for more than 20 minutes looking for the source. They eventually decided to set up a makeshift control center near the courthouse. After meeting for about 10 minutes, they left without any answers. NOTE: There were thunderstorms in the area.”
Perez added that community platforms such as Ring Neighbors and Nextdoor are rife with speculation such as “sonic booms, thunder (including super lightning, earthquakes, meteors, missiles, natural gas explosions).”
“Some people saw a flash of light at the same time as the explosion,” Perez wrote on X.
