1. The National Transportation Safety Board has announced the deployment of an investigative team to examine the collision. The team is expected to arrive at the location today, the NTSB said in a post on X.

The fire truck that collided with an Air Canada flight last night was responding to an unrelated incident on a United Airlines flight that reported an odor. “The vehicle was responding to another aircraft operated by United Airlines that reported an odor issue,” Port Authority Executive Director Kathryn Garcia said in a news release.
3. The plane, a Jazz Aviation flight operated by Air Canada, had 72 passengers and four crew members on board, according to the airline. The flight departed from Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, the main airport serving Montreal.
4. Before the accident, air traffic controllers used radio transmissions to allow the vehicle to cross a section of the tarmac and then attempted to prevent its movement. “Stop, Truck 1. Stop,” the transmission reads. Controllers can be heard urgently redirecting incoming planes to prevent them from landing.

Although emergency protocols have been quickly activated, US aviation authorities have ordered the grounding of all flights at the airport as the likelihood of a prolonged grounding is “high”. “The airport is currently closed to facilitate response and a thorough investigation,” port officials told AFP.
