SRINAGAR: The Ladakh government has announced plans to launch high-end Changthang pashmina products in the global luxury market and take a holistic approach to local processing of the precious fiber to increase the income of local stakeholders.Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra, while addressing a two-day conclave that began on Tuesday, stressed the need for collaboration among stakeholders – pastoralists, artisans, designers, cooperatives, policymakers and industries.“Ladakh produces 40 to 50 tonnes of cashmere fiber every year, but most of it is processed outside the Union Territory,” Kundra said.At the inauguration, LG Kavinder Gupta highlighted the government’s vision to transform its iconic cashmere, sourced from goats raised in the harsh high-altitude Chang Tangs, into a globally recognized luxury brand.
