KOLKATA: Kolkata’s Writers Building and several other Bengal government offices will turn orange after dusk on Saturday to mark the inauguration day of the first BJP government.The lighting trial took place on Friday evening.Sources said the Greco-Roman facade of the Writers’ Hall, which will be decorated with thousands of orange rice bulbs, will be used again as the State Secretariat after restoration and renovation are completed. Several other buildings, including Parliament House, Kolkata Collectorate and Akashvani Bhavan, will also be decorated in similar orange colors starting around 5.30 pm.After Mamata Banerjee came to power in 2011, many state government buildings were given a blue-and-white makeover, but a few heritage buildings like Writers Building, the pre-2013 state secretariat and the Kolkata Collection retained their red and off-white tones.At Writers House, new minister Suvendu Adhikari is expected to be sworn in at the Brigade Parade Ground around afternoon and then proceed to Raj Bhavan for formalities. At the Writers’ Building, work on setting up an interim Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) for the symbolic visit is in full swing. Thereafter, Adhikari will work in the principal office of the Congress in the Assembly and then return to the writers’ office after completion of office work.
