this die Wiley’s actions sparked outrage on social media, especially in Senatobia, a community bordering Tennessee just 40 miles south of Memphis. The boy’s parents and community advocates launched a campaign demanding justice.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case. The Senatobia Police Department also released a statement on social media acknowledging their officers’ involvement in the shooting and noting their commitment to “full transparency.” But details about the officer who fired into the vehicle have not yet been released.

in a Post on Facebook, Marquell Bridges said the officer who shot Kohen Wiley was Hunter Foster, who according to his LinkedIn profile was a patrol officer with the Senatobia Police Department. Several others also shared it via social media.

“Hunter Foster, the officer who shot and killed one-year-old Cohen Cartier Wiley, was the subject of a complaint from an officer for using a racial slur at the police station just days before he shot and killed one-year-old Cohen Wiley,” Bridges wrote in the post.

“The driver drove in the direction of the officers and nearly hit an officer,” according to the agency. MBI said officers reportedly tried to stop the car and an officer responded by firing into the car. Cohen Wiley was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, family members and community advocates are helping the family refute that account and demand the release of body camera footage of the incident.
