King Charles III congratulated US President Donald Trump and the American people on the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence, calling the occasion a “truly historic milestone” and expressing confidence that the long-standing partnership between the United Kingdom and the United States will continue to strengthen. In a message marking Fourth of July celebrations, the British monarch said he and Queen Camilla sent the United States their “warmest congratulations,” calling the anniversary “a great moment for Americans to celebrate around the world.”The king reviewed the evolution of the relationship, saying it had “gone from overcoming conflicts to becoming one of the closest and most productive alliances in the world.”“Through centuries of shared challenges and achievements, our two countries have forged a relationship based on friendship, trust and belief in freedom, the rule of law and the dignity of all people,” he said.Charles also highlighted the broad scope of cooperation between the two allies, pointing to defense and security, trade and investment, science, research, education, culture and the arts as areas fundamental to what he called a “unique and far-reaching” partnership.Looking to the future, the king said he was encouraged by the enduring ties between the two countries and expressed confidence that “I believe the bond between our two peoples will only grow stronger as time goes on.”The King also stressed the importance of protecting the natural world and said both countries had a responsibility to protect important natural systems for future generations, linking environmental stewardship to long-term prosperity and national security.A few months ago, King Charles and Queen Camilla paid a four-day state visit to the United States in April as part of commemorations of the country’s 250th anniversary.During their visit, the royal couple attended a White House reception hosted by President Trump and first lady Melania Trump, addressed a joint session of Congress and attended events in Washington and Virginia. The Fourth of July marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the United States’ declaration of independence from British rule.Celebrations across the country include parades, concerts, fireworks and official events, with President Trump expected to preside over the commemoration in Washington, DC.
