Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton defeated four-term incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in Tuesday’s Republican U.S. Senate primary runoff. With the president’s belated support, he clinched the Republican nomination in a landslide victory Donald Trump.

Angela Paxton (née Allen), born February 14, 1963, is a Republican senator from Texas representing the 8th District. She met Ken Paxton while she was a student at Baylor University, and the two married in 1986.
Angela Paxton filed for divorce in July 2025, citing adultery in court documents and saying the filing was based on “biblical grounds.”

There were reports that the couple had been living apart since around 2024. Despite their separation, Ken Paxton and Angela Paxton have both publicly stated that they remain committed to raising their children and grandchildren.
Ken Paxton said in a statement that “numerous political attacks and the pressure of public scrutiny” were the reasons the couple “decided to start a new chapter.”
