He added that his father always taught him that responsibility comes above all else.“You taught me that responsibility comes first… I tried to live my dream on the field. Now that my dream has come true… I just feel like I wish you were there,” he continued, expressing how much he wished his father could be there to witness India lift the trophy.Rinku says that every happy moment now reminds him of the emptiness left behind. “Every ounce of happiness in your life will fill me. During the funeral procession, a grief-stricken Rinku was seen supporting his father’s body on his shoulders.Earlier in the tournament, Rinku rushed home after his father’s health deteriorated after India’s first Super Eight match against South Africa. He later rejoined the team ahead of the match against Zimbabwe.Although Rinku’s results in the World Cup were not ideal (24 points in five games), the game was a deeply personal journey for Rinku, who finally realized his father’s cherished dream: to see his son become a world champion.
